Works for Me Wednesday: Quick and Frugal Homemade Cleaner

Works for Me Wednesday

I've been on quite the serious kick lately so I thought we could all use a little fun and down-to-earthness around here. Kristen who blogs at We Are THAT Family has a fabulous feature called Works for Me Wednesday. If you haven't checked it out yet you ought to stop by her blog and do so. Women share tips about what makes life a bit easier for them (and we could all use that, couldn't we?).

So my Works for Me Wednesday tip is homemade multipurpose cleaner. You can assemble it in less than a minute with items you probably already have around the house.

Here's the recipe:

Quick and Frugal Multipurpose Cleaner

1 Spray Bottle

Fill halfway with water

Then fill to top with rubbing alcohol

Add a few drops of liquid soap

Shake to combine

You can use it to clean glass, kitchen counters, sinks, bathrooms, anything you'd like. And it's a lot cheaper than purchasing brand name cleaners at the store.

So there's my little tip for the day...what works for you? Share here or post a link on Kristen's site!

Forgive me, but is that supposed to say liquid SOAP? If soup is a good cleaner I have missed out all these years. :)

I have learned the hard way that the existence of spell check gives me a false sense of security, lol!

Vinegar works wonders in the tub. If there is a lot of soap scum build up, I pour in about a gallon and add enough water to cover the problem spots and let soak for 1-2 hours. It wipes right off. Also works on mirrors and will get rid of odor in plastic ware. I have even put it in the wash for softening.

Tiffany, yes, soup would have quite the opposite effect. Thanks for pointing that out! What a difference one little letter makes...(:

Hi Holley, What a privilege to be able to talk about things such as cleaning ingredients! It's fantastic and fun! Thank you for that great idea you found, combining all the above ingredients to make a Multipurpose Cleaner! Cheap and yet excellent! I have something to share as well. I found using one lemon combined with part dish washing detergent to be so effective when cleaning stain- stricken pots and pans. First, allow the mixture to soak on the stained and soiled cookware, leave for maybe one hour or so, come back and see the wonder it does, finish the job with a plastic scouring pad and it's all done, rinse and it will be sparkling in your very eyes. I've done this one a number of times as I managed to burn the pots at times.........

Sounds good! I never tried that one. My favorite frugal cleaners are*baking soda mixed with liquid soap (click my name for detailed raving)*hydrogen peroxide, drugstore strength, straight from the bottle. It's great for icky grooves like around the base of the faucet, around the drain, or the strip of chrome along the edge of the formica in my 1950s kitchen. Just pour it on and leave it for 10 minutes, and the gunk bubbles out so you can just wipe it off! Kills germs, too.
